Girls Softball

Welcome to Boyertown Optimist Softball

Our goal is to provide an environment where young athletes can learn the fundamentals of playing organized youth softball. We encourage our players to have fun while developing the values of teamwork, leadership, and discipline. Our league is recreational in nature and not meant to be highly competitive. While winning and losing is part of the game, we promote sportsmanship and confidence building above all else.

Registration for the Spring 2025 season is open now! see registration page to register!

Softball Divisions: Based on the players’ softball age as of January 1, 2025, not their actual age.

(6U) – Girls ages 5-6 - 11” ball, tee ball/coach pitch division. The season will begin with batters using a tee, however, at the discretion and agreement of the coaches, coach pitch will begin.
There are no recorded outs in this division with a focus on learning the fundamentals of baserunning. Batting order is continuous with all batters hitting in each inning. Once coach pitch begins, each batter will get 3 pitches; after the 3rd pitch, a tee will be used. Play games against in-house Boyertown Optimist teams and other local leagues.

(8U) – Girls ages 7-8 - 11” ball, utilizing the Blue Flame pitching machine/coach pitch at coaches/league discretion. Focus is on the fundamental skills of the game (batting and fielding) as players are introduced to, and learn all positions, with coaches assisting on the field. All field plays that result in “outs” will have the batter/baserunner leaving the field. At this level, no score is kept. Teams will play games against in-house Boyertown Optimist teams and other local leagues.

(10U) – Girls ages 9-10 - 11” ball with 35’ pitching distance, player pitch. Continued focus on the fundamentals of the game, with more specialized instruction (windmill pitching, sliding, double plays, etc.) All players are placed in the batting order with outs and runs being recorded.
Teams will play in-house Boyertown Optimist teams and other local leagues.

(12U) – Girls ages 11-12 - 12” ball with 40’ pitching distance. Players are introduced to more advanced rules while continuing to work on the fundamentals. At this level players continue to be taught the skills of windmill pitching, stealing of bases, and sliding. Teams will play games against in-house Boyertown Optimist teams and other local leagues.

Special Requests:
When registering your daughter please remember you’re committing your daughter to a team sport. While we understand that girls are involved in numerous activities during this time of year, please keep in mind that your daughter’s attendance for practices and games has an effect on the entire team and coaching staff. Fundamentals of softball are learned through repetition and it takes our volunteer coaches a lot of time to prepare for practices and games.
With this being said if there is a specific night that your daughter is not available, please list this in the additional comments section during the registration process. We will make every effort to accommodate those requests.

Please note - While the Boyertown Optimist Softball organization will make every attempt to honor your specific player request (i.e. requesting to have friends put on same team, or for carpooling purposes, etc.) not all requests can be fulfilled.

Additionally requests to “play up” will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Input from a previous season’s coach will be gathered to assist the commissioner with making this decision. No new player to the league will be permitted to “play up.”

Practice and Game Schedule:
Your daughter’s coach will determine the practice schedule for their team at their discretion. This will be communicated to families when available. Teams will practice one to two times per week prior to the start of the season. Once games begin, your daughter’s coach will communicate with you how often their team will be practicing. The game schedule will be provided to you when available. Each team plays one to two games per week, with one of those games being held on a weekday evening, and the other being played on Saturday.

Volunteers:
Boyertown Optimist Softball is run solely by volunteers. Our League Commissioner, coaches, snack stand attendants, and various other positions are all volunteer based.  Without volunteers, the league is not sustainable. Can you step up and get more involved? We have several opportunities available and will provide you with assistance and guidance to help you along the way.

Coaches – WE NEED COACHES, especially for our younger divisions. No experience necessary and we can pair you with an experienced coach if available.

Snack Stand Committee/Attendants – Responsible for snack stand operations during home games. **All teams will be assigned snack stand shift coverage for the 2025 Spring Season.**

Field Maintenance – There will be a field maintenance day prior to the start of the 2025 Spring Season. Additionally, we are seeking individuals on an ongoing basis to help with the upkeep of our fields during the season.

Event planning/execution – Help organize and run events such as Opening Day and other potential outings, involving Boyertown Optimist Softball participants and their families.

Fundraising – We are in need of volunteers to assist with fundraising activities. Individuals are also needed to assist with gathering sponsorships for our Spring 2025 season.
We are available to discuss any of the volunteer opportunities, and hope to see some new faces joining our seasoned members.
